King Philip Deed At Taunton
Philip To Inhabitants of Taunton in which he
ratifies and confirms an earlier grant.
"March 231663, These prsents witnesseth That wheras there was a
plantation graunted by the Court of Plymouth in the yeare one Thousand six hundred thirty
eight (named Taunton) To sundry psons whoe there sett Downer viz: Capt: Willam Poole mr
John Gilbert Henery Andrewes John Dean Walter Deane and sundry others; the
bounds of which plantation are expressed in the graunt of the Court of Plymouth according
to the severall points of the compas therin expressed which plantation soe bounded as
above mencioned; together with the meddowes upon the great River Downeward soe farr as the
storehouse point soe called with all the meddow of Assonett and broad Cove with a smale
Tract of land bought of Ishben lying betwixt the marked hee att the pond and the mouth of
Nistoquahamock or the three mile river which lands and meddowes with theire appurtenances
emunities and privilidgs whatsoever were bought of Osamequin by the pties above mencioned;
I Phillip Sachem Doe therfore by these prsents ratify and Confeirme for my selfe my heires
and successors the graunted prmises made by the Court of Plymouth and alsoe
assented unto by Osamequin my father to the aforsaid Inhabitants of Taunton
and theire heires and successors for ever peacably to enjoy without molestation or
Disturbance from by or under mee witnes my hand and seale the Day and yeare above written
